- Dear D3 Community:Based on the latest guidance from the Department of Health and NYC Public Schools, we have decided to cancel this evening’s STEAM Expo. While we would have liked to have had the opportunity to celebrate our students’ work across several subject areas, we must safeguard the health and safety of everyone in our community.Below is the language that was sent to all principals. Please share with your communities. Best,Kamar _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Dear Principals, Given worsening air quality conditions, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for all five boroughs. All New York City Public Schools will remain open on Wednesday, June 7. However, all outdoor activities including recess, field trips, PSAL, after school, and any other school-sponsored events taking place outdoors should be moved indoors or cancelled if they cannot be moved indoors. Student time outside (e.g., entry and dismissal in school yards, lunch outside, etc.) should be limited. School leaders should pay special attention to vulnerable student and staff populations (such as those with asthma, reactive airway disease, etc.). We encourage vulnerable students and staff to wear a high-quality mask (e.g., N95 or KN95) when outdoors. Our facilities teams will be reaching out to school custodians to provide guidance on air conditioning and filtration. We will maintain ongoing communication with school operations staff as we get further guidance from New York City Emergency Management (NYCEM). The safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance. We are coordinating closely with NYCEM, the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and other city agencies on the air quality situation and its implications, and we will alert you as circumstances change, including as to whether there are any changes to the operating status for school staff on Thursday, June 8 for Anniversary Day / Chancellor’s Conference Day. For questions, please contact your superintendent. Kamar Samuels Superintendent Community School District 3212-678-5857Follow me on twitter: @kamar_samuels
