GOT SNEAKERS?

We are SO excited to be working with Got Sneakers?

Our sneaker drive is just around the corner.  The first week of sneaker donations will be January 29th-February 2nd.

A bin will be set up at school.  All you have to do is bring in used sneakers (adult and children’s sneakers are welcome) that are no longer of use to you and drop them in the bin.  I will have the exact bin location in next week’s letter.

Got Sneakers will recycle the sneakers for materials that will be used to pave tracks and playgrounds across the country.

Sneakers only, please…

Day of Service, MLK weekend

If you are looking for places to volunteer in honor of MLK’s Day of Service, here are three great resources that allow you to be matched with an opportunity to give your time.

New York Cares

AmeriCorps

Volunteer New York

Center School’s CRJE-sponsored Day of Service – Sunday, January 21, 1:00-3:30 PM ET

The organization with whom we are partnering is the church of St. Paul and St. Andrew, which hosted Center School’s 8th grade graduation last year.

The church (in collaboration with many other organizations) has a resource fair for new families seeking asylum every Monday morning which includes a meal, information about immigration, reduced-fare MetroCard’s, some basic health supplies like diapers, maxi pads and soap.

Twice a month, families can choose from donated clothing.

On the Sundays before the clothing giveaway, there is a great need for volunteers to help sort the clothing.  That is what Sunday, January 21st will be.

What:  Donate and sort warm clothing items for families in great need

When:  Sunday, January 21st, 1:00-3:30

Where:  Church of St. Paul and St. Andrew, 263 West 86th Street at West End Ave.

Who:  Center School families, students

How:   Sign up using   THIS EASY FORM

What if I collected donations but I can’t stay to sort?

You can drop off donation items to the church this Sunday, January 21, 1:00-2:00.

Please note this program is available to fourth through sixth-grade students, with preference given to students attending a Title 1 school in District 3.

The application for the spring 2024 session is open NOW and closes on January 26th, 2024.
