Upcoming Events:
Mix & Mingle Friday, October 14th: 5:00 – 7:00 pm
What you need to know: Everyone is welcome – Students, Teachers, Families! All you need to bring is yourself & your own beverages.
Please join us for this year’s first Mix & Mingle on Friday October 14th from 5 PM until 7 PM in the Center School courtyard/playground.
We will be providing pizza, and we will arrange for an ice cream truck.
We look forward to seeing everyone in person and spending time together! No rain date scheduled.
PTA Committees and Meetings:
Thanks to all the parents (new and returning families) who joined us for our kickoff auction committee meeting last week.
We are gearing up for an exciting return to an in-person auction this spring (all
students, siblings, staff included!) We will be following up soon with the entire parent body on how to support Center School’s biggest fundraiser. But, in the meantime, here are some key areas where we need YOUR HELP:
Item solicitation (most popular items include restaurant gift cards, tickets to
shows/sporting events, any special NYC experience, spas/haircuts/salons);
Inputting items into our online Greater Giving platform (we welcome those with experience and newbies too);
Soliciting food donations for our incredible potluck dinner;
Helping to decorate the cafeteria for the big fiesta.
For those of you who would still like to join in the fun, it’s not too late. Reach out to us at centerschoolauction@gmail.com. It’s a great way to meet other CS parents and get to know the school & community better.
Things you can do to help the school & PTA
Earlier today, we emailed our annual Pledge Drive letter. Our Pledge Drive is one of our largest fundraising events!
Each year, the PTA spends over $500 per child to support Center School’s
programming, including but not limited too:
Computer Teacher/Specialist
Urban Fellows Program (paying for 2 of our fabulous teachers each year)
Additional lockers so all students have access to one
New Computers for all teachers
Dues and supplies for student programs, like Debate club and TACS
performances
The Center School relies on our donations to fund essential programs that the
Department of Education budget does not. State and city budgets only meet the bare minimum of a public school’s needs, covering the salaries of teachers, staff and
administration.
We are asking ALL families to make a donation to our annual pledge drive. All
donations in any amount are greatly appreciated and make a positive impact on our
children’s educational experience. Every donation makes a difference – our goal is
100% participation!

Kids For Ukraine — Cold Weather Items Collection this Friday!
Center School 8th Graders Nazar Zavada and Connor Margolis recently shared an
update about Kids For Ukraine, an organization which they co-founded in March
2022.
To date, they’ve raised almost $900, which has been donated to two non-profit
organizations providing support to children and families in Ukraine. With the increased bombing and the resulting loss of heat and electricity, Ukrainians need our support more than ever.
Get Your Marie Kondo On: Search your closets for gently used, freshly
laundered (or new) winter gear: jackets, fleece, hoodies, winter hats,
gloves, scarves and donate them on Friday Oct 14 at the Center School
Mix & Mingle in the Yard.
