Reminders:
- The read-a-thon starts on February 1. We have included a letter from the school regarding the read-a-thon. It is attached to this eNewsletter. We have also included a copy of the independent reading presentation that Mr. Veve shared at the PTA meeting on Monday.

- Basketball fans see the details below for a fun promotion our Auction team is running!
- Picture Day: February 12th (Details coming later!)
- Details regarding the all-school ice-skating outing on February 9th to be shared soon!
- We are finalizing a community coffee for February. We hope to share the details next week.
Read-a-thon
Here are some highlights for you, but ask your student about it, too!
- Every student has a goal of at least 30 minutes of reading per day for the month of February (or a total of 870 minutes), OUTSIDE of school, but we hope they will exceed that.
- Any genre of book can be part of the read-a-thon. E-readers or physical books are fine.
- Parents/guardians will sign off on their student’s log sheet every day to help them keep track. They will bring the log to Lit every Monday and Thursday so their progress can be recorded. Please remind them to show you their log every day.
- They can get sponsors by the minute, the book, or the whole event. Anyone sponsoring the whole event can pay at any point. Payment should be by cash or check. Checks should be made out to “The Center School.”
- The lit groups with the highest average number of minutes read and the highest total money raised will get Pizza parties!
Auction
Got Sneakers:
Sneaker collection begins this Monday, January 29th. The bin for donations will be at the top of the stairs on the way into the school.
Children and adult sized sneakers only, please.
Donations:
We are still seeking local donations and services. Thank you to everyone who has submitted items and donated their time in preparation for the auction! If you have any questions about a donation or anything auction related, please email centerschoolauction@gmail.com.
Attention College Basketball Fans:
The last day to purchase tickets to the Columbia Lions Women’s College Basketball Game v. Brown at 7:00 pm on February 9, 2024, is February 2nd.

Committee for Racial Justice and Equity (CRJE):
Thank you for ALL the donations and sorting of clothes on Sunday, January 21st. We wish there had been no limit to the numbers of volunteers – so many from our community were so generous! We were part of a record number of volunteers that day and we turned a 20′ x 30′ pile of donations into hundreds of bags of sorted clothing sizes and uses!
The next day to donate is Sunday, February 11th, between 1:00 and 2:00 pm (and ONLY then, unless you are donating a stroller, which they will accept at any time.) Volunteers may also stay and sort from 1:00 to 3:30 pm that day. Email Ali for further instructions (aliauth@yahoo.com).
The next CRJE meeting is Monday, February 5th at 6:30 pm – the Zoom link will be sent next week. All are welcome and we are here to support and listen to the experiences of families, students, and staff, especially those who represent communities who are marginalized. We seek to increase the sense of belonging at the school.

- Chamber Music Night is confirmed for April 15 at 6:00 PM and space is limited to about twenty (20) people.
- If you would like to attend, please RSVP to centerschoolspecialevents@gmail.com and put “Chamber Music Night” in the subject line.
- Limit is two (2) people per Center School family (adults only)
- We have tentatively scheduled Writers Night for April 1 (details to follow)
- Singers and Songwriters Night will take place in May or June, exact date TBD (details to follow)
